Bonus vidéo

  • Journey of Discovery: Creating Man of Steel (Disc 3, HD, 174 minutes): The entire movie can be viewed on Disc Three, this time courtesy of an almost three-hour Maximum Movie Mode-esque video commentary hosted by Zack Snyder. Picture-in-Picture interviews, featurettes, pre-viz animatics, shot comparisons and other highly informative goodies make this an extensive, must-see trip behind the scenes. Warner was wise to grant the experience its own disc. It not only avoids compromising the feature presentation, it allows the supplement's producers to maximize the content included. There are still a number of silent stretches, and there's no way to access the content outside of the in-movie track, but I suppose beggars can't be choosers.

  • Strong Characters, Legendary Roles (Disc 2, HD, 26 minutes): Snyder and company dissect their Man of Steel, from the elements lifted from previous incarnations of the iconic character to specific changes made to serve the new film's vision, costuming and caping, casting and more.

  • All Out Action (Disc 2, HD, 26 minutes): The set's second doc focuses on -- what else? -- all out action, as the actors, stunt crew and visual effects wizards pool their talent to create the film's hard-hitting action set pieces and climactic battles.

  • 75th Anniversary Short (Disc 2, HD, 2 minutes): Charting the course of Superman history, Zack Snyder, Bruce Timm (Superman: The Animated Series) and Warner Bros. Animation deliver a short that sees Superman evolve from Action Comics #1 to Man of Steel. You can also view the short here.

  • Krypton Decoded (Disc 2, HD, 7 minutes): Young Dylan Sprayberry, who briefly plays Clark Kent in Man of Steel, leads viewers through a look at the film's opening Kryptonian salvo and eventual destruction.

  • New Zealand: Home to Middle Earth (Disc 2, HD, 7 minutes): In a strange bit of cross promotion, a featurette from The Hobbit stows away on the Man of Steel Blu-ray release and ends up as out of place as you might imagine. A trailer would have sufficed.

  • Planet Krypton (Disc 3, HD, 17 minutes): A wholly superfluous mockumentary from the Man of Steel universe delving into the world's first studies of Krypton, its people and its technology.
